Production Company Introduction Task
For this task we were asked to create an intro for our production company using any software that was disposable to us. I used Adobe After Effects to complete my company intro, to make this I got stock pictures from Google and royalty free sound effect from Youtube as-well as a glitchy video. As well as a black solid before my picture of the light ray to give it the effect that a light was turned on ( The sound effect of pulling a light or pressing help to emphasise this effect)
It took me around 30minutes to an hour to complete this task from scratch (Including research for pictures & sound effects). While the task itself isn't very hard and can be done by novice's, it is gruelling to listen over and make sure that the sound effect is as accurate as it can be to match the on screen actions.
The reason I went for a glitchy type of effect is because the effect is extremely common and conforms to my genre, Urban Dramas. The exaggerated movements of the text and frequent discolouration can represent the type of people present in such dramas; volatile. The black background and only having one light ray present with my text in the light ray allows all of the audiences attention to be on the centre, where I want it. The sudden noise of a light being flicked on after a second or two of nothing helps to create a mini jump scare even before the film. I still would've liked to have had another second of delay before the actual effect to inn crease this effect as I think it happens too fast, this is one thing that I would definitely change to improve it.
To give the effect of discolouration, I used an effect FX called: RGB. By duplicating my text layer to three and adding the RGB effect to all three I changed their properties to allow each layer to have the colour of red, blue and green and then changing the bottom layer to allow the text to look white until another effect was added to have the three colours change subsequently.
To ensure that everything was going good before I actually export and render out my text, I had to keep pre-rendering my video as I was creating it. This was done by highlighting the bit I wanted to preview and right-clicking in the timeline and clicking the option of RAM Preview (this uses your RAM to quickly pre-render a part of your project). To evaluate the hands on experience of using after effects is second to none, it is a great and professional editing software that will only benefit you the more you use it.
