Editing practical

Editing practical

For my editing practical I decided to attempt to change the mood of a clip from YouTube. I found a clip of people in the rain and tried to turn the mood from a average everyday walk to a sad clip of the woman in heavy rain.

Original clip

This was the original video, but I only used the first woman buy cutting it down in final cut pro.

Editing

To start the editing, I cut the video down by dragging in the end of the video to a chosen point and then using the blade tool to cut the video at the end of the first person and deleting the rest of the video as it was quicker to do it this way rather than dragging in the video from the end.

The next thing I did was mute the sound on the video by dragging down the bar underneath the video so the sound that came with the video is muted and I can put my own sound over the top.

After the video was muted I decided I wanted to put some sad piano music over the clip to change the mood. When I then watched the clip with the sound cut to a short piece that I liked I decided it needed something else, so I found a 9-minute video of rain sounds and put that over the video as well so it is obvious that the woman was in the rain.

From here I decided to put an effect over the video so I opened the effect menu from the icon on the right side of the screen and looked through them all. I then went back and chose the effect that I thought was most appropriate for the mood I am trying to convey, which was the old style movie effect.

Final product

This is my final edited video.

Evaluation

I like the use of sound and the pre-set effects that are in final cut pro. If I were to do this again I would try slowing the clip down slightly to convey the mood further. Also I had trouble trying to find the right sort of video on YouTube, this could have been easier if I had organised myself to film my own video as I wanted it.
