Genre Research

Genre Research

Horror
Although the horror genre has several subgenres that we can adapt to and explore I feel as though the genre is often overused in this part of our coursework, as the majority of my class will be making a film opening using the horror genre our group felt as though we needed to divert from the genre to make a more original piece of work.
Urban Drama
Creating an urban drama will be hard as we will need to find the right topic for us and it may be harder to film without offending people in the rougher areas of cities. By creating a film opening we will be approaching a lesser known subjects. If we choose to pursue this genre then we could create some original work but the issues that would arise during filming if we chose to go with drugs or violence, could hamper our final product.
Social Realism
As a genre social realism is the least popular with few films following the genre, we will be most likely to follow it, although there are few examples that we could look at, the genre will also give us more freedom and room for originality as there is a smaller fan base so conventions wont need to be religiously followed.
