Text Manipulation Practical
Brief
Prompted by my production company title, I chose the below tutorial as I wanted to experiment with text and images. Instead of landmarks used in the tutorial below I wish to use images that resemble conventions of urban dramas like violence, drugs etc. This is video I will use:
Post-production
First I opened "Adobe Photoshop CC 2017" and added the text "TYPOGRAHY". On another layer I added many other images. This included blood, pills and another brick wall image. However, I also chose a photo of Victorian children with their eyes scratched out. This was because my group and I are still indecisive about whether to include some psychological horror elements.
These layers had low opacity so that I could position them over each other and align them with the font. Using the brush tool like in the video, I began to remove the borders and outlines between the photos. Selecting all the layers of images I then merged them together with the "Merge Layers" tool and with the "Alt" key I pressed this merged layer so that it is seen through the font, shown below.
The text layer was then 'rasterized' so I could apply the paint brush tool to show the layers underneath. This was done with specially downloaded paint brush splatters and the "Define Brush Preset..." tool.
Outcome
Below is the outcome of this experiment:
Personal Comments
I felt that this was not at all successful. The chosen font and images don't work very well and aren't seamlessly layered and merged. The paint splatters also look fairly amateurish. Unfortunately, the outcome was not really worth the time spent. Though, I was able to learn basic "Photoshop" skills like layers.
