Location Deconstruction

Location Deconstruction

Kingsman: The Secret Service
In the shots that I have taken from the film ‘Kingsman’ there are several council flats shown, these are all basically identical, the building full of matching apartments. These are commonly seen in the more run down areas of cities and towns. The building is tall and dirty giving thoughts of an intimidating and unsafe area. The dirtiness highlights the fact that the location is slightly unkempt and this contrasts to suburbia areas that are often shown in films.
In the panning shots, you can see that there are similar buildings nearby and that the scene was shot in an urban area that we hope to present just as well in our film opening. The use of the council flat building is powerful as it gives us a visual on the difficulties and issues that can come with living there.
Homeless to Harvard
In ‘Homeless to Harvard’ there are several examples that we could take and use as inspiration for our final project. The use of homeless shelters in the film is effective as it gives a more realistic feel to the story. The location in the opening scene is not completely distinguished yet there are close ups of important images, including graffiti on worn brick and evident drug use in needles. This is effective as the introduction gives you a clear expectation of the themes of the film. This obviousness will be what we are hoping to include and express successfully in our film opening.

The Pursuit of Happyness
Although the location varies in the film there are scenes when the character is homeless and the places that he chooses to sleep are different but effective each night as his character is such a contrast to the location. The use of a public toilet is effective as it presents the dramatic reversal. The location itself is dirty and run down after heavy use and low maintenance. This is something we wish to include in our film opening as we believe that it will hold the realism that we wish to convey and hope it’s as effective as it is in this scene.
