Homeless props- Practical
One of the props we wanted to include was an old silk like handkerchief
that will cover the locket. I ordered a cheap scrap of hemmed silk like fabric
and used it to make the prop
I first ironed it out so that it didn’t have the neat fold
line and so anything I put on it would not be effected by the folds.
I then unpicked the rolled edges that made the fabric neat
so that it was fraying along the edges, I found that they may be fraying a bit
too much but after the next step then settled to the fabric a bit better.
After I unpicked the edges I ironed them out so the fabric
was flat
Next I poured coffee over the fabric to discolour it and age
it slightly, the effect was instant but a bit patchy as the coffee had granules
in it that made darker patches
To make it seem more worn I then took it outside and rubbed
it in dirt, as it was still damp the effect was not as instant but it gave
another layer of discolouring that makes it look a bit more authentic.
Lastly I ran a pin along the surface of the fabric to make
it seem as though it had caught several times.
Final Product
