Source of Inspiration Blog: W Two Worlds Trailer
My source of inspiration comes from a recently aired Korean TV drama: W Two Worlds. W follows the story of two main protagonists and their hopeless endeavour as Kang Chul (leading male actor) learns he is a cartoon character of a best-selling Manhwa (Korean comics) written and illustrated by the father of Oh Yeon-Joo (leading female actor). The plot of W Two Worlds is beautifully crafted and stringed together to show the hardships of love and compassion between different individuals.
The trailer begins with the two main protagonists standing in front of each other with a big transparent square object separating them from each other. The two actors are seen in two different locations even though they are very close to each other. This could mean the transparant object separates the two worlds they belong in. This is further confirmed as shortly after the leading actor changes appearance to a more cartoony, drawing styled version of himself.
The animation and sort of glitchy way it happens is something that I would consider incorporating into our end of course film production. The use of this editing is prominent throughout the whole drama as if to separate him from everyone else to show he dosen't belong there in the reality world with everyone else.
After being unable to get through the transparant object, the two main actors ares shown with a long shot as the gap between them increases slowly, as if to show they don't belong together they're not from the same world. Looking closely at the buildings you can see they are cartoon drawings further showing he is from a different world. However through all these difficulties they still manage to find the silver-lining, after touching hands the male lead completely becomes cartoonifed and disappears as the transparent wall crumbles, fades away connecting the two worlds.
This cartoon editing is further shown in the trailer as it follows the two actors but one is completely cartoonified throughout the whole trailer. The two protagonists still are able to connect with each other although being from two different worlds. The transition from being real to a cartoon is a clear case of excellent editing used to captivate the audience while still conforming to the plot of the drama.
